Community Based Rehabilitation Programmes

Health care services

We organize medical camps in collaboration with Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly, Department of Dental Care, Amrutha Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, General Hospital, Ernakulam, Kudumbasree units, Local Self Governments and Sahrudaya Services & Charities in various panchayats in Ernakulam and Kottayam districts. The medical camps mainly focus on medical needs of persons with disabilities and the elderly.

Forming Self Help Groups

Under the guidance of KRIPA, 4 SHGs of the persons with disabilities are functioning at Elankunnappuzha, T.V. Puram, Vallakam and Thaikkattussery panchayats. All the 4 SHGs are going on well. Some of the members started income generation programmes such as making washing powder, starch powder, dish washing lotion, toilet soaps, etc. inspired by the vocational training given by the agency.

Seminars/workshops & awareness programmes

KRIPA conducts seminars/ workshops/ awareness programmes on disability issues for various groups such as social work students, NGO personnel, persons with disabilities, Govt. employees & officials, etc.

Disability Prevention Programmes

KRIPA conducts awareness generation classes for disability prevention in panchayat areas. The target group is adolescent girls, young ladies, pregnant & lactating mothers. The classes are being conducted through ICDS centres and doctors / health inspectors from primary health centre and social workers are the resource persons. KRIPA could conduct disability prevention classes at 3 panchayats and Kalamassery Municipality.

Harithagramam project

Harithagramam is a recent project of KRIPA which aims to establish environment friendly practices through the population with disabilities in each panchayats in Kerala. Promotion of Kitchen Garden is the first programme of this project. Under the initiative of KRIPA, women and elderly groups join with the persons with disabilities in 2 panchayats (Vallakam, Vazhakkulam) to cultivate vegetables at their own house premises.

The programme includes creating a group who are ready to cultivate vegetables, a class on preparing effective kitchen garden even in minimum housing conditions and finally seeds of vegetables are distributed to the group. People are found interested in the present scenario of hiking prices of everything day by day.

Barrier Free Environment Promotion Programmes

KRIPA conducted Access Audit in 40 Local Self Government Offices in Ernakulam district as part of awareness generation on problems of building accessibility being faced by the persons with disabilities among Local Self Government officials. The study revealed that no office allows access to wheelchair or walker or other assistive devices.
